Eyelash extensions are a huge fad right now – and we believe (and hope!) the trend is here to stay. Women all over the world have chosen the #lashlife, yet there are still so many misconceptions about it.
As eyelash technicians, our job is to educate our clients and help them have the most beautiful, healthy lashes around. So we’re here today to explain the myths and get you ready for your first pair of lash extensions.
1. “Your natural eyelashes get shorter and thinner after lash extensions”
Many people believe that their lashes become thinner, shorter and more brittle after their lash extensions are removed. This is incorrect – in fact, it’s more of an optical illusion. You get so used to having longer, fuller lashes while wearing extensions that it feels odd to have your naturals back. As long as you take care of your lashes while they’re attached (don’t pull on them, brush them often, etc.) your natural lashes will be juuust fine.
2. "The longer the application, the worse the technician is”
The average eyelash application time here at Lady Lash is between 1-2 hours (or 1-2.5 hours for volume sets). This is dependent on the style of lashes (classic or volume), what your natural lashes are like, and if you’re currently wearing lashes. Lash application is also a meticulous process as hundreds of lashes are individually placed on your lid. In actuality, the longer the lash application, the better the outcome should be.
3. “Your eyelashes need a break from extensions from time to time”
Answer: True, but not for damage-reasons!
We recommend taking a break every 6 months for proper eye health. This has nothing to do with the extensions causing damage, but rather to provide overall eye care. Going 2-4 weeks lash-free keeps your eyes as healthy as can be!
TIP: to keep your natural lashes healthy and to increase growth, try EyEnvy! It’s a natural lash and eyebrow growth treatment and it works wonders. As an added bonus, we sell it at LadyLash!
4. “Getting lash extensions can be painful and uncomfortable”
Answer: Yet another myth
The only mildly uncomfortable thing about lash extensions is the piece of fabric we put over your bottom lashes. That and the fact that you can’t use your iPhone for a couple hours (hah!). This little piece of fabric allows for us to work only on your top lashes, and to not adhere any lashes to bottom eyelashes. That being said, you stop noticing that little piece of fabric after only a couple minutes. The rest of the application is absolutely painless!
5. “Lash extensions fall out right after application”
It’s true – a few lashes will fall out directly after application. And that’s totally normal! We apply “extra” lashes for this reason, and because not every lash will adhere perfectly and stay. Plus (like we’ve already mentioned), lash extensions fall out with your naturals. So if you had a natural lash that was ready to shed, your extension will shed with it. It’s no biggie, though! We attach hundreds of lashes to each natural lash and our extensions last about a month before you’ll need to come back for a fill.
And that’s that! The top 5 lash extension myths have now been busted by your gal pal team at Lady Lash.
